My Feelings on Adoption

Hello, I’m Donna – Connecting with me by email and phone calls will be how you’ll get to know me…just to see how you feel. As you make your life-changing decisions….I will be your ally if you want me to be. Taking a giant leap that would only happen if you ultimately choose to trust me and place your baby for adoption…he or she would grow to know you in ways that you are comfortable. As an adoptive mom, I will give loving guidance this little being as he or she grows to become a satisfied adult…yet this includes allowing him or her to make mistakes as they explore the world. I’m surrounded by my relatives and friends who are all totally supportive. They will be there for my child as he or she grows. I know that as a parent I will inevitably make mistakes…as every parent does. I will always put his or her needs before my own. I will do what I can to make it as easy as I can for my adoptive son or daughter to understand his or her roots, just as I understand mine. It’s also a way that I can show his or her birth mother or parents that I trust and care about them, after all that she or they have done for me. As child grows up, I will be supportive about visiting birth parents and family, if his or her birth family agrees. Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted children. I now know that being a mom is more important to me than anything else. I have made a good life for myself. I am able to support myself and enjoy the good things in life with my family and friends by my side. Since having a child to share my life with is so important I am hopeful that I can connect with a loving birth mother or couple and become a mother by adopting.

My Interests

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends… going out to dinner, traveling or > playing with nieces. > > I’ve been to many places. It was great meeting new people and seeing how they live. I was able to go to Africa on a picture taking safari in 2003. One of my other favorite places is Belize and I have had several memorable trips there. > > I try to make it to the gym at least 3 or 4 times a week for step and spinning classes, and weight training. The gym is a place where I can let go of stress and think. I also like reading thriller and mystery novels and listening to a variety of music….. peaceful and serene classical, high energy disco, classic rock or pop music. Sundays will change from reading the Sunday paper, having my cats nearby with some soothing music playing in the background to taking care of baby. > > I volunteer at the Central Park Zoo. Most of my time there is giving tours to the children visitors about our animals, the environment and important issues affecting them both. >

My Friends and Family

My mother Barbara and my father Richard are two of the most important people in my life. I remember my father working multiple jobs to give us what we needed to survive. The love and affection my parents gave to me never subsided, no matter how difficult things sometimes were for them. Eventually they decided to have my sister Deborah. I remember worrying that my parents would forget me when she came home, but when I met her, my fear quickly dissolved. I was in awe of her and thrilled to be the big sister. We went through ups and downs in our relationship, as I think all sisters do. Today, Debbie is my best friend. Although we are different in a lot of ways, we both value the same things in life. I think this is what has made our relationship so strong. Debbie is one of the kindest, most generous people I know. She has a big heart and I know that there is nothing in this world she wouldn’t do for me and my child. She is an educator and will be a great role model for my child. You can see her love of children any time she is around them. My mom was there for us every minute of every day, through every success and failure. It was her nurturing and guidance that has made me the person I am today. My mother not only taught us to be strong, but also to be caring and compassionate to those around us. She taught us to be inquisitive and to appreciate the important things in life like love, health and happiness rather than to focus our attentions on the material things. She was a tremendous role model and I only hope that I can be half as good as a mother as she was. My dad and his wife are Snow-Birds; they spend half the year in New Jersey and the other half in Florida. My step-brother, Lewis, lives in New York with his wife Jill and my two nieces. They are my true passions. I have been an active part of their lives since they were both born. Now that they are older, it is even more fun being with them since they have both grown into little people. While everyone in my life has been supportive of my decision to adopt, I am totally amazed at how my friends and associates have rallied around me and have become my biggest supporters. They all want me to experience my dream of having a child. I know throughout the years, they will all become important parts of my child’s life and future. I have many friends I have met through the years, all of whom have been there for me through both the good times and the bad. I also have a tight knit group of friends that I met through the Central Park Zoo. I volunteer there every other Sunday and serve as my group’s Day Captain.
