Doug & Karin Profile

Hello Friend~

Do you like the idea of your child being raised in a log cabin, on a fruit and vegetable farm, by two very happy people with a happy dog? If so, please read on. But before you do, please know that we are grateful you are taking the time to get to know us. We wish you courage and love as you make these very difficult choices. Peace be with you.

Hello!

We are Doug and Karin. We met on the internet almost six years ago, corresponded via email for several months, talked on the telephone -- and finally, finally! -- met in person for coffee and a hike. > > A year-and-a-half later, we married. It meant Doug selling his 100-acre farm in Canada, and moving to the US; Karin selling her house in downtown Ann Arbor; and finding a farm in Michigan. > > We found a beautiful 8-acre farm with a modern log cabin, mid-way between Ann Arbor, where Karin works part-time as a project manager for a software company, and Toledo, where Karin and Doug go for Mud Hens and Walleyes games, as well as dinner and shopping.

Abundance

Our lives and our farm are abundant. We would love to share this abundance with a child or children. Doug is a full-time farmer (he's been farming for 30 years), and on weekends, we sell our fruits and vegetables at a near-by farmers' market. Karin also has a small home-based business doing Reiki (hands-on healing) and making and selling "spirited creations" -- scarves, bags, bath oils and salts, and knitted items. When Doug and Karin have children, Karin plans to quit her computer company job, and become a full-time stay-at-home mom.

So cozy

Our log cabin has three bedrooms, two full baths, an open living-dining-room-kitchen, and an open loft; air-conditioning, three sources of heat, and a dishwasher. Doug bakes all our bread, and has recently begun making pies -- Doug makes the crust and Karin make the filling. Karin and Doug are both great cooks, and enjoy cooking and preserving all their farm-fresh vegetables and fruits. On winter evenings, Doug reads out loud from a book they've chosen, and Karin knits. James (the dog) brings them toys to throw. We look forward to adding a child to the mix, to listen to the reading, and play.
